To recognize and understand the term intergroup conflict, being knowledgeable of what each term is defined as will allow a clearer concept. Your Dictionary defines intergroup as, â€Å"something that deals with two or more collections of different people. An example of something intergroup is a type of meeting involving two different ethnic groups.† Your Dictionary defines conflict as, â€Å"a fight or disagreement or to clash with someone or something.† Combining the two terms intergroup conflict, in my words I think the term means a group of individuals having problems and concerns coming to a mutual understanding or agreement. Ivancevich, Konopaske, and Matteson defines Intergroup conflict as, â€Å"conflict between groups; can be functional or†¦show more content†¦My current workplace is in education at an elementary school that house students in grades kindergarten, first, and second. Conflicts that take place in schools are concealed and exists because of different views and clashing of those views. In this paper, I will discuss intergroup conflicts that I recognize in my workplace, the nature of the conflicts, causes of the conflicts, and how to manage intergroup conflicts. Intergroup Conflicts in the Education School System In my eight-year work experience in an elementary school system there will always be conflict and disagreements among employees. The first set of intergroup conflicts I witness has been with the certified school teachers and the school leaders such as the principals and assistant principals. The conflict that teachers seem to have the most problems with is discipline with their students and the lack of support they receive from the leaders or administrators of the school. The intergroup conflict also involves the school districts board members and superintendents. Teachers are overwhelmed with students that have severe behavior problems and present a constant distraction in the classroom. It is impossible to have a learning environment when there is a daily distraction in a class causing the other students to not focus on learning and focus on the misbehavior.
